Emily joined the Haven Housing Board of Directors in 2014, and became Board Co-Chair in 2018.

“I have a deep appreciation for Haven Housing's approach to helping women in crisis or transition,” says Emily. “Haven Housing meets people where they are and provides a safe, peaceful place for women to catch their breath, heal, and think about the future. The organization has no set timeline or agenda for anyone who comes through the doors; it is there to help people on their own terms and doesn't presume to know what is ‘best’ for anyone.”

Haven Housing’s approach is so respectful and authentic, Emily says, “I will do everything I can to support it.”

Emily is an attorney who provides legal support in UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare & Retirement business. Emily and her husband, who both grew up in the Twin Cities, are happily raising their two children here, with “lots of family around.”  In her free time, Emily loves to cook. She is currently refining and enhancing her favorite bean soup recipes, while looking forward to a rise in outside temperatures so she can move on to lighter fare.

Some of Emily’s favorite moments as a Board member have been hearing directly from residents. “I have attended a number of client testimonials and have heard clients from all walks of life speak,” Emily says. “They varied in age, ethnicity, personality, and challenges that brought them to Haven Housing, but they all felt genuinely supported by the organization and were grateful for the help in getting back on their feet.”

“It is hearing those stories of challenge and renewal that fuels my desire to serve on the board and help the organization grow.”

We are extremely grateful for Emily’s steady leadership and deep desire to lift up the women served at Haven Housing.
